Illtud is a Farmer, Agri-Food Consultant & former owner of Charcutier Ltd, a specialist meats business that won the BBC Food and Farming Award for Best Food Producer in the UK. His study as a Nuffield Farming Trust Scholar led him to explore the possibilities of alternative proteins with a focus on cell-based meats. In 2016, he and Dr Marianne Ellis (University of Bath) co-founded Cellular Agriculture Ltd, the first cultured meat business in the UK. In 2018, InnovateUK funding allowed the company to build a proof of concept for their technology, they’re currently working to scale an industrial process that will combat food poverty and leave a positive impact on the planet. He has also contributed extensively to food policy and is a founding member of Cultivate, an open forum for the diverse voices within the cellular agricultural industry within the UK. He is an advocate for the myriad of opportunities that these new technologies present to the traditional agriculture industry.
